Tips to effective resumé

Tips to effective resumé

1. Identify title or heading that match the job description

Employers receive plenty of resumés from candidates almost everyday, and each candidate must ensure that his/her resumé hooks an employer’s attention within a short period of time. Identifying the key word that the employer had provided in the job descriptions is a key strategy in creating a powerful resumé that can grab a manager’s attention.

2. Focus on job accomplishment and not just job description

Candidate’s resumé must focus on what you are able to do in the job (work achievement), and not just a list of duties that the candidate might be responsible for. Candidate accomplishments should be unique and not just a list of what someone else had done.

3. Use power words and be as specific as possible

To avoid complexity of content and statement in the resumé, candidates are encouraged to use numbered point forms to describe their achievement and responsibilities that can greatly expand and elevate your image. Power words or verbs can create vivid images in the mind and it’s important to control the image that the employer develops based on your qualification.

4. Prioritize the content of statement for your resumé

Prioritize them by importance, impressiveness and relevance to the job you are applying. A strong statement with power words will affect every statement below it and effect the image on the employer.

5. Tweak and Target Your Resumés and Cover Letters.

Candidates will generate plenty of interview opportunities by tweaking their resumé and cover letters so that they address the specific skills upon each employer and each job specification requests. Candidates must create a unique resumé for each specific job they applied for due to the difference in job requirements across different industries.
